The Family Program is gearing up for summer! Summertime is the busiest time in the Family Program. With school out, many families turn to The Gathering Place to meet some basic needs. Families often rely on free school breakfast and lunch programs to offset high food prices and to prevent hunger. The Gathering Place offers breakfast and lunch to families in need for free. Parents turn to us to help them find activities for their children to prevent summer boredom. We have been able to partner with local attractions to help provide access to fun programs and events that would normally be out of our families’ affordability. For teens, we are hosting a seminar that will teach them how to find, apply for, interview for and land that elusive summer job. In house, we will be partnering with our Arts Program to provide an artistic outlet for the kids, as well as our Food Program, teaching kids some kitchen skills. New to the Family Program will be Teen Peer Advocates, teens who will volunteer to lead teen activities and to act as their advocates within The Gathering Place. Also sharing their talents this summer are staff members, volunteers and friends of The Gathering Place who will donate one hour this summer of their time to read, paint, play, dance, perform, cook, garden, etc.
If you are interested in volunteering your time and talents, please contact Matt Wallington, Family Program Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org.
