 ght tirelessly throughout her career for hearing screening in newborns and
  the early intervention for those found to have hearing problems. Downs di
 rected the audiology department at the University of Denver from 1950 to 1
 959. She became a member of the University of Colorado faculty in 1959\, w
 here she investigated behavioral responses of newborns to sound. Her work 
 resulted in newborn screening in all 50 states and many countries around t
 he world. She was instrumental I the formation of a National Joint Committ
 ee on Infant Screening and chaired the committee for a number of years.\n
 \nRocky Mountain PBS and the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame will debut a ne
 w broadcast series “Great Colorado Women”.  The pilot of the series will p
 remier on Thursday\, February 1st\, at 8pm MT on Rocky Mountain PBS channe
 l 6 in Denver. The series will focus on historic and contemporary Colorado
  women and their little known\, under-reported achievements in a five-epis
