The Gathering Place is committed to Accessibility, Belonging, Liberation, and Equity (ABLE):

At The Gathering Place (TGP), we are passionately committed to advancing social justice through our deeply rooted commitment to Accessibility, Belonging, Liberation, and Equity (ABLE). Here is what ABLE means to us at TGP:

Accessibility: A way that ensures everyone, regardless of ability or disability, can fully participate and benefit. This includes removing physical, social, and digital barriers to ensure equal opportunities for all.

Belonging: A deep sense of connection and acceptance within a community or group, where individuals feel valued, included, and recognized for who they are. It's the experience of being welcomed and authentically integrated into a space or environment.

Liberation: The act or process of achieving freedom from oppression, limitations, or social constraints. Liberation focuses on breaking down systems of injustice and empowering individuals or groups to live with autonomy, dignity, and equality.

Equity: The practice of fairness and justice in the distribution of resources, opportunities, and treatment. Unlike equality, which means giving everyone the same resources, equity recognizes that different people have different needs and circumstances, and thus, may require different approaches to achieve fair outcomes.

As an organization dedicated to serving some of the most marginalized individuals in Colorado, TGP fills a critical gap in services and is essential to the community. We have a responsibility to identify conscious and unconscious biases in order to dismantle systems of oppression, challenge white dominant culture, continuously educate ourselves in a culturally competent manner, and provide a safe haven for all members and staff. TGP’s ABLE practices are continuous and integrated into every aspect of our organization, including recruitment and hiring practices, programmatic approaches, staff well-being and development, policy creation and evaluation, and community outreach. We welcome different perspectives and experiences and integrate them into our practices to better the organization. As part of our commitment to this work, the ABLE Workgroup was created to take concrete action toward reaching the organization’s equity goals.

Through the prioritization of ABLE, all staff are empowered to hold the organization and one another accountable to living out the mission, vision, and values of TGP. This goal is achieved by creating spaces where individuals from privileged groups hold each other accountable and are encouraged to develop their allyship, as well as where people from marginalized identities can engage in community, mentorship, and advocacy.
