Group Volunteer Opportunities

From local book clubs, to corporate groups, to friend groups - we have group volunteering opportunities available throughout the year. Even a small group of two or three people can make a huge impact through a couple of hours of volunteering.

Let The Gathering Place host your next group volunteering activity!

We offer all volunteer groups a tour of The Gathering Place to really connect the meaning behind the volunteer work to our mission, and most importantly, our members. A staff member is available at all group volunteer events to help guide, instruct, and support the group. We offer safe, accessible, and meaningful ways to get involved that make a real impact on our community. We would also be happy to take a group photo of your team to help commemorate the event!

Please note the minimum age for all volunteers is 16 years+ and we typically plan these events at least a month out.

  • Meal Sponsorship

Our Meal Sponsorship Program offers the chance to connect with our members through a direct service, while also helping The Gathering Place offset our meal costs. Groups agree to fund, help prepare, and serve breakfast or lunch to 75-100 members in our dining room. All ingredients will conveniently be ready upon your team’s arrival, and meal preparations are guided by our Food Program staff. Please note that we schedule Meal Sponsorships about a month out.

    Breakfast – 7:00am~10:30am, $1,250 donation, 3-6 volunteers needed

    Lunch – 9:00am-2:00pm, $1,500 donation, 3-6 volunteers needed

All Day – 8:00am-2:00pm, split into 2-3 shifts of 3-6 volunteers each, $2,500 donation, 6-18 total volunteers needed

  • Monthly Birthday Celebration Sponsorship

There’s always something to celebrate at The Gathering Place! Join us by sponsoring our monthly get-togethers for cake, ice cream, or other tasty treats to celebrate our members' birthdays and other accomplishments. Please note that we schedule sponsorships about a month out.

Mondays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays, from 1:30pm-3:00pm

    2-4 volunteers, $200 donation

Off-site Group Acitivities

The following options are more flexible opportunities, as they are mostly lead by the participating organization. Tailor these events to your team's specific needs and interests while helping to provide essential, daily resources to our members! We just ask that any donations be dropped off during The Gathering Place's business hours as we may not have the capacity for donation pick up.

  • Make Sack Lunches

Sack lunches are essential for our members who are on the go and may not have time to sit down for a hot meal in our dining room. We ask that the participating organization buy the ingredients and then prep and pack the lunches, so they are ready to distribute! Sack lunches typically include: a sandwich, fruit, granola or protein bar, and a snack (ie. chips, trail mix, beef stick, cookie, etc.). Monday or Tuesday drop-off works best for this opportunity so that we can hand out the lunches that same week.

On any given week, we will need roughly:
    20 PB+J Sandwiches
    30 Ham + Cheese Sandwiches
    40 Turkey + Cheese Sandwiches

Note that it is not required to make ALL the sandwiches requested and varying amounts are still accepted and appreciated! Please connect with volunteer@tgpdenver.org BEFORE planning this event – in order to make the most use of your donations we will need to coordinate with our Kitchen team!

  • Basic Hygiene Kits

Simple shower kits with the essentials are best: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, and lotion. Volunteers can work together to pack these items into a kit and any additional donations may be sorted into like groups, for example, all toothpastes can go together, hair brushes and combs all together, chapsticks and lip conditioners together, etc.

Can we include additional items in the kit, like menstrual products, or a toothbrush and toothpaste?
Great question, we prefer shower kits that just have those basic, most needed items. We distribute most of our resources using a choice-based model, meaning members can pick and choose which items they need and want. For example, not everyone may need a tampon after their shower, and some people already have toothbrushes and may only need toothpaste. This choice-based model ensures that our members receive only the items they want and will use, protecting their dignity and sense of choice while also making your donations go further!

  • Host a Donation Drive

Connect with our team to discuss any ideas you have, your goals for the event and we will align them with TGP’s most immediate needs. 100% of these donations go straight to our members, always free of charge. These essential daily items directly support our members’ dignity, health, and wellbeing. We ask that all donations be dropped off at The Gathering Place during our business hours.

Here are some unique Donation Drive ideas:
T-shirt Camp: Make tie-dye or print t-shirts that are women’s and unisex.
Cookbook: Have each person purchase the non-perishable ingredients to make their favorite recipe to donate.  They then make two copies of the recipe – one to include in their donation and one to put into a community cookbook, scrapbook style.
Clothing Swap: Everyone brings their lightly used clothing (nothing with holes, stains, or really worn, etc.) to swap and exchange on a designated time and date. Anything that doesn’t find a new home gets donated to The Gathering Place! Please note that due to space limitations we can only take up to 12 garbage sized bags of clothing.

Please fill out the form below or connect with volunteer@tgpdenver.org BEFORE planning any of these events. In order to make the most of your donations we will need to coordinate with our Programs & Services teams!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you require a donation to volunteer?
There are always costs associated with hosting groups of any size, especially larger groups (6+). Your donation supports all the overhead costs associated with orienting and training your group, as well as coordinating a safe, fun, accessible, and meaningful event for everyone involved. Thank you for donating to make group volunteering truly free of cost to The Gathering Place and its members.

Is there any way we can get a discounted donation? What if we are also a 501(c)(3) organization?
We have discounted donation pricing for small businesses, social clubs, and small non-profits. The requested donation amount covers the entire cost of hosting a group of people on-site at The Gathering Place. This ensures consistency in our programs and resources for members, as we won’t have to pull funding from those programs to support group volunteer efforts.

How do we sign up?
Fill out the interest form with some dates that work for you, your group size, which opportunity(ies) you’re interested in and any dietary or accessibility needs. You may also email volunteer@tgpdenver.org to get started!

Where is The Gathering Place?
The Gathering Place is located at 1535 High Street, on the NW corner of Colfax and High Street. We’re in a large brick building just north of the Sinclair gas station.

Do you have on-site parking?
We have limited parking on-site on the south and west sides of our building. These spots are first-come-first-serve and fill up quickly. If on-site parking is full, there is plenty of free street parking around the neighborhood.

Who can volunteer? Is there an age limit?
Most of our volunteer opportunities have an age limit of 18 years or older. The kitchen is an exception, with an age limit of 16 years or older. Other than that, anyone can volunteer! Your group of friends or family, coworkers and work groups, social clubs, book clubs, intramurals sports teams, research project/lab groups, give back groups, social justice committees, marginalized groups, college youth leaders, your admin team that never gets enough recognition, wallflowers, gamers, lgbtqia+ groups, support groups, recovery groups, and anyone that attended your last birthday party. If you or someone in your group are looking to volunteer as an individual, see our webpage: Individual Volunteers.

Do volunteers need background checks or special training?
Group roles do not require background checks. If a role does require checks or additional training, we will notify you in advance and help facilitate the process.

What should I wear when volunteering at The Gathering Place?
Please dress in a way that is non-revealing and comfortable for you. We ask that you refrain from wearing clothing with logos/messages that relate or pertain to drugs, alcohol, sex or politics while volunteering. Keep in mind the activities you will be participating in and dress accordingly. Please travel light as we have limited on-site storage.

Can I bring my child to volunteer at The Gathering Place?
While we love engaging youth in service, our site is unfortunately not a conducive environment for younger kids to volunteer. The reality is that we support folks who are navigating substance misuse, mental health challenges, and extremely stressful circumstances, sometimes leading to escalation and violence. Volunteers at TGP must be at least 18 years old so that minors are not involved in those situations. The kitchen is an exception, with an age limit of 16 years or older.

Can we bring donations to The Gathering Place when I volunteer in-person?
Yes! Please let your main contact or Volunteer Coordinator know if you or your group members are planning on bringing any donations with you.

Can we take pictures while we’re there?
Please feel free to take pictures in private areas. Please keep in mind that our members’ safety and confidentiality is extremely important. In order to keep our facility trauma-informed, we ask that no photos are taken of members or near any of our members’ presence. This includes the outside of our property.

Are all volunteer activities accessible or have accessible options?
Yes! We want every volunteer to feel that their time is well spent and impactful. All of our group volunteering activities are accessible and include accessible tasks.

How is payment handled? Can we get an invoice?
Yes — we provide invoices and documentation for corporate giving, matching gifts, or accounting needs. We accept credit and check. Payment instructions and terms are included on our invoice.

Will we receive a donation receipt for tax purposes?
We can provide a donation acknowledgement and receipt upon request.

What is your cancellation / rescheduling policy?
If you must cancel or reschedule, please notify us as soon as possible. No refunds will be provided for cancellations within one week of the scheduled event because supplies will already have been ordered. Cancellations communicated in writing before the one week deadline will be considered for refund, or the group may opt to reschedule and use their payment for a future date.

What if my question is not answered here?
Please reach out to volunteer@tgpdenver.org!

Thank you for your interest in group volunteering with The Gathering Place!
