Where is The Gathering Place?
The Gathering Place is located at 1535 High Street, which is essentially the NW corner of Colfax and High Street. We’re in a large brick building just north of the Sinclair gas station.
When is The Gathering Place open?
The Gathering Place is open Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00pm. Most of our volunteer opportunities fall between the hours of 9:00-3:30pm. We close at 1:30pm on Tuesdays for all-staff meetings.
How old do I have to be to volunteer at The Gathering Place?
Most of our volunteer opportunities have an age limit of 18 years or older. The kitchen is an exception, with an age limit of 16 years or older.
Do you have one-time volunteer opportunities?
Our individual volunteer opportunities require a weekly commitment of at least three months. For this reason, we do not have one-time opportunities for individuals at this time. We do offer a one-time volunteer opportunity for groups through our meal sponsorship program. Click here to read more about this opportunity.
Do you have on-site parking?
We have limited parking on-site. These spots are first-come-first-serve and fill up quickly. If on-site parking is full, there is plenty of free street parking around the neighborhood.
Can I complete my court-ordered community service at The Gathering Place?
We typically do not offer opportunities to complete court-ordered community service hours, but if your timeline fits in with our programming, we look at each individual on a case-by-case basis.
What should I wear when volunteering at The Gathering Place?
Please dress in a way that is non-revealing and comfortable for you. We ask that you refrain from wearing clothing with logos/messages that relate or pertain to drugs, alcohol, or politics while volunteering. Keep in mind the activities you will be participating in and dress accordingly.
Can I bring my child to volunteer with me at The Gathering Place?
Our volunteer positions have age limits and all positions require all of your attention. For these reasons, we ask that you not bring your children in to volunteer with you.
Can I bring donations to The Gathering Place when I volunteer?
Please visit our Donate New & Used Items page first to see what items we are currently accepting and other donation guidelines. Please note that we only accept clothing donations on the first Wednesday of each month between 11am-5pm and cannot accept clothing donations at any other times.
What should I know about volunteering during COVID?
The health and safety of all members, volunteers, and staff is our highest priority. The Gathering Place is following federal, state, and local public health orders to take all appropriate steps to protect the health and safety of our community. Measures to limit the risk of COVID-19 transmission at The Gathering Place include strict enforcement of proper mask-wearing, COVID-19 screening and temperature checks for anyone entering our building, maintaining social distancing to the extent possible, and regularly disinfecting touched surfaces. The Gathering Place is working closely with the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE), the city and county of Denver, and other local homeless service providers to coordinate services, shelter, and resources for vulnerable populations throughout this public health crisis. We are also able to provide regular COVID testing onsite, as well as occasional vaccine clinics.
UPDATE: The Gathering Place requires all volunteers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (boosters are strongly recommended but not required at this time). Please be prepared to show your COVID-19 vaccination record before volunteering. Also, please note that masks are required for everyone in our building at this time.
